Corruption

Does everyone have money problems right now? This economy is going to shit. Fuck you Biden! Just kidding. Wtf do I know about how politics plays into the problems of today? I just see the problems. How many of my friends and I are struggling to make ends meet. How rent is higher, our salaries lower, our car parts getting more expensive and lawyers living large for bringing the wrong folks to "justice". 

Is everyone's truth true? Relativism is not a good philosophy in my opinion because then nobody can make any rules or say anything at all without it being untrue to someone else and therefore meaningless and discredited. For example we might believe in freedom. But the motherfuckers killing freedom-lovers in Iran disagree. But is the dichotomy true v. false? No. I think it's cruel v. kind. Or something more basic that we humans feel in our bones rather than our minds. Something everyone can grasp. 

Human cruelty has and always will be around. For justifiable (response to cruelty) or unjustifiable (sadistic) reasons. Sociopaths don't feel the empathy it takes to recognize cruelty as a problem, and the psychopaths find pleasure in cruelty. So while we need to help them, there's also the problem of philosophies and religions that encourage cruelty as a service to oneself or some god. It takes bad ideologies to turn good people bad. 

There are also corrupt systems outside of religions and philosophical groups: companies, non profits, courts of law, schools, etc. How do we pin down these motherfuckers in a system that values extreme capitalism? Without government checks and balances, we're fucked. How do we ensure that government leaders are striving to enforce "good" checks and balances? I lost one of my jobs due to system issues and a lack of trust in HR. I know firsthand how shitty managers can weaponize the system against an employee they don't like, and how there's not much any of us can do about it. And when you take a severance, you're effectively silenced. 

We. Built. This. System. 

And if we built it, we can improve it.

Xuân Hưong

Xuân Hưong might just be my new favorite soup spot. I ended up there like most sick people do, needing some hot, spicy soup to dissolve the phlegm. Okay that was gross.  I had two restaurant options. Lem's was right nextdoor and had higher reviews. But it had a chain feel. Bright neon lights out front. Special parking arrangements. And I began to sense that negative reviews for Xuân Hưong might be based on appearance. Xuân Hưong looked unassuming. One of the lights was knocked out. The building looked worn as if it was entirely made of drywall. But it looked homey. I trusted my gut and walked in. I waved at the waitress behind the counter and she grinned but looked down. Good. Well how long will you fuck her? said Jeff.  As long as she'll let me, I guess, I said. I almost said I suppose but knew I'd only be saying that to sound more sophisticated. More in control.
